Email limits and restrictions
At MijnHostingPartner.nl we have a lot of freedom regarding email. However, we can not completely free and open. This will be abused and thus cause inconvenience to you as a customer or other customers. In this article we explain what can and cannot be done, and what you should take into account when sending and receiving email.
Hard limits that are active for our email services:
- Maximum size of any attachments: 50 MB
- SMTP connections: 100 connections in 10 minutes
- BAD SMTP sessions, for example when using a wrong password. 5 wrong login attempts per minute = automatic block valid for 1 hour.
Limits and restrictions based on Fair Use
By default, much is possible in terms of email sending and receiving at MijnHostingPartner.nl, if we notice that certain customers systematically exceed these limits then we are free to use the following limits which we have listed below. We have done this actively to prevent inconvenience for other customers. It is so that with regular use there will be no nuisance. But as soon as spammers are active on a mail domain, this will be a problem.
- Maximum 250 messages in the hour, any mail above this comes in the queue or waiting list and is sent after this hour.
- Maximum 250 mb of outgoing email traffic in the hour, everything above this will be sent after this hour.
- Maximum 10 bounces in the hour.
SMTP Authentication
Anyone who has already set up an email address locally may have run into this, or those who have already wanted to use an email address on the website you created. We require SMTP authentication. It is therefore necessary to first sign up to our email server with your username and password before you can send. This drastically reduces the nuisance of spammers and malicious people. It has been a requirement with us for quite some time.
We strongly recommend that you also create a strong password for all your email addresses, use
our password generator and set it to 24 and special characters. In the end it is only a few times with setting the email address that you actually need to type this. Furthermore, it can be saved in a password manager with two factor authentication. with the setting on your phone or local mail client you can set this once and leave it at that. This is further up to you the choice and responsibility.
What happens when I abuse the E-Mail Limits and Restrictions?
As soon as you exceed the limits you will be put on a waiting list or a blacklist. This can happen once, but if it happens more often we will have to impose a fine. This causes inconvenience for other customers.
The fine for this is €25,- ex VAT for the second violation within two weeks.
With the possibility of being increased if this occurs more often after this.
