Mobile first or responsive

If you are a web developer you have probably heard of the terms Mobile First and Responsive web design. If you are new to creating websites then it is also interesting to know about them because you will definitely have to deal with them.

Mobile First

Mobile first websites, as the name suggests, are built so that users can see a beautiful website on their phones. When building websites, mobile users are then taken into account first. Reasons that people make their websites mobile first has mainly to do with the users. In fact, it has been found that about 75 percent of web store users use a phone when they are on the website. This number is pretty high, in the Netherlands that's about 12.75 million mobile users. It has also been shown that if your website is not mobile friendly, 61 percent of users would rather go to your competitor. Another important reason it is developed mobile first is because of mobile first indexing. Mobile first indexing of Google means that Google first checks if your website is suitable for mobile users, if so then you get a better position in Google.

Responsive web design

Responsive web design and mobile first are sometimes confused, but there is a big difference. With mobile first, your website is first made for mobile users and with responsive web design hosting , the website adapts to the size of your screen. If you have a good responsive website, your website should of course also be accessible to mobile users. Responsive web design was invented after it was noticed that more and more websites had mobile domains, this is easily recognized by the "m." in front of the domains. Because a responsive website adapts to the screen size it is automatically mobile friendly.
