YouTube extends the length of short films
YouTube short films have quickly become a favorite for many users since their introduction. So YouTube offers both formats of video media. In the style of TikTok and in the traditional longer format of YouTube. As an advertiser and website owner, you are of course already familiar with the platform to offer promotional videos and educational material. However, YouTube short films can be a great way to promote your products to users with shorter attention spans.
In this blog post, we look at the upcoming changes to YouTube short films and how you as a marketer can benefit from them.
From up to 60 seconds to 3 minutes
Short films could initially only be up to 60 seconds long and were therefore intended for short informational or entertainment videos, but since its introduction it has become a feature that appeals to many target groups. After all, you can simply scroll and are constantly offered new content that adapts to your own needs. Since its launch, YouTube has also gained the attention of a new crowd of creators who previously could only publish their content on TikTok.
Content on almost any topic is being created and is popular not only with the younger generation, but with all generations. According to YouTube, the extension from 60 seconds to 3 minutes is a request from many creators and was therefore made possible and introduced on October 15. Longer vertical videos are therefore somewhat less restricted and can show a longer course that no longer has to be cut so hard to the 60 seconds. This blurs the line that previously existed on YouTube between traditional videos in longer formats and longer short films. It will be interesting to see how this develops.
New tools in the editor
For creators, there will also be a range of tools that allow you to use templates for other people's short films. To do this, simply click on Remix and then on the option to use the template for your own design.
Google DeepMind's AI, Veo, will also make its way into YouTube Shorts and creators will be able to bring their ideas to life with vibrant backgrounds for their videos and even standalone videos.
New trend page for shorts
YouTube has a new trends page specifically for shorts, where creators can see what's trending and create their latest videos around it. Users will also be able to see earlier which posts have been liked by users on YouTube Shorts and thus see the comments even before you open Short. So you can already get an idea of how to receive shorts and trends without having to open Short first.
Option to view shorts less
There will also be an option for users who prefer to see fewer shorts in their feed. To do this, click on the three dots next to the shorts in your feed and select the option to show them less. You will then temporarily see fewer shorts in your feed.
YouTube does not mention why this is only temporary. As a website owner, you've probably already noticed that a mix of advertising and promotion channels is a must to continue attracting new visitors to your website. With Google's updates to the search network, it's often uncertain whether you'll see an influx of new visitors each month. Active promotion via videos on YouTube, social media posts and other external mentions can increase your reach and ensure that you're not just building your website on one pillar. Rather, you need to expand your opportunities to multiple networks.
So with this longer format of shorts, you can also tailor your longer content accordingly to promote your services, products and the website itself.
