End of the Microsoft Web App Gallery
The end of the Microsoft Web App Gallery has unfortunately come. In the many years that we have hosted in the Netherlands and abroad, many customers and ourselves have used it extensively. In the Microsoft Web App Gallery, applications in hosting packages such as WordPress and others can be installed with a few clicks. Unfortunately, this is no longer possible as Microsoft itself has pulled the plug. Let's dive deeper into the options that are still available and what will come as a replacement, exclusively in Windows hosting from MijnHostingPartner.nl.
History of Microsoft Web App Gallery
Since we started offering Windows hosting in 2011, the Web App Gallery has been an integral part of our Windows hosting. This will now change after Microsoft announced that this will no longer be supported. This means that as of August 2021, there will no longer be support for it and Web App Gallery will no longer work through our Control Panel.
The Microsoft Web App Gallery had started as an initiative to make it easier for server administrators to install popular applications like WordPress, Joomla, and Umbraco. With the click of a button, all the necessary files were downloaded and placed in the wwwroot folder. And the required database files were created.
As far as I could find out, Microsoft Web App Gallery has been available since 2009, and it required several steps to install. Since the launch of MijnHostingPartner.nl, the link to our Control Panel has been set up to work seamlessly with the Web App Gallery to install applications.
End of life news
Since July, Microsoft Web App Gallery is officially no longer supported, ensuring that with the latest update of the Control Panel, there will no longer be a working version. In August 2021, this is also implemented by us and the Web App Gallery can no longer be used since then.
Changes that will bring MijnHostingPartner.nl
Of course, we see it as a negative that this is no longer supported and are already working on an alternative that will be implemented as soon as possible. If you don't know how to install an application, you can always consult the knowledge base to continue. Or you can issue a ticket for it, and we'll already set up an installation for you to get started quickly.
For this very reason, we've created a video tutorial that walks you through the WordPress manual step-by-step so you can get started with your website right away. Many other applications can be installed in a similar way, and there are plenty of articles about them in our knowledge base as well. So the information is already there, and you can use it to get started with a manual installation.
New customer panel and installation of WordPress
Many people already know that we have a new customer panel since this year, we develop it ourselves and therefore have a short line to our programmers who work hard for you and us. We are working on getting WordPress installation done within 1 button click in your hosting space, and also working on certain other content management systems depending on popularity.
Like Umbraco and others that will be added next.The button is already in the client area, and we'll try to get it up and running as soon as possible, but we need a little more time to get this ready. There are some unforeseen complications that will make this potentially simple looking task even more difficult.
