How do I install ModX CMS?

This article covers the installation of ModX Content management system. You can download the installation package from the following link:

After this you can unpack / install the package in the wwwroot of your hosting space.
The remaining things you need is a MySQL database and corresponding user.

With a browser of your choice you can go to your domain name. You will see this message:




As expected, you click on Install Now to continue with the installation.





You choose a language of your choice, we always recommend to stay in English. This way support and error messages are easier to detect.
Then click on next.



Here you choose for a new installation and press Next again.



Here you enter the data, remember that the MySQL host depends on your server. You can always check this by looking under space statistics at your summary. This is described here.
The table prefix and other settings can be left at default. Where necessary you can fill in the data.

In the Default Manager Settings it is important to choose a strong password.

After this you can click Next.





You will now see the screen where you can choose all additional options, for first time users it is probably wise to check the Sample web site. This way you can easily learn to work with it.

After this you press Next again.




The message about sql_mode does not need to be done, you then press Install.


After this your website is installed.




Check at the last step that the checkbox Remove the install folder is checked. After this press close and you are in the admin area of ModX.
