news for people in southern Europe and America, Microsoft and Facebook have jointly built a new data line between the two points. This gives many benefits for connectivity for the entire world. The cable which has been named Marea goes from Virginia Beach in Virginia, America to Bilbao, Spain and connects the two points. The length of the undersea cable is rounded off at 6450 km and lies partly buried along the coast and partly simply on the seabed to a depth of 3350 meters.

It is the first time that a line from America connects directly to southern Europe. They do this to improve the connectivity of all online services such as cloud and communications. For example, Marea allows you to watch 71 million High-Definition videos simultaneously over the cable. It can transmit a total of 160 terabits of data per second. That’s comparable to the average modem at home but 16 million times faster. This speed, according to Facebook and Microsoft, is also necessary for the current demand for data consumption and future requirements.

People and organizations that rely and build on an Internet connection, MijnHostingPartner.nl also contributes to this by providing email hosting and hosting for a large number of Dutch and foreign websites. Because of our stable services and our close source to the internet exchange as he sits in Amsterdam, we can always and everywhere provide a good service. The internet node which is now in Spain also helps with this for other countries!

Origins of the cableThe

idea and the initiation of the cable Marea came from the hurricane Sandy that hit the east coast of the U.S. in 2012. This hurricane shut down many infrastructures such as water and electricity, but it also affected the Internet. People who wanted to let their families know that they were okay could not do this quickly via social media. Facebook has already made the “All ok†notification active for affected people during multiple disasters for both nature and attacks. This provides quick feedback as to whether everything is okay. Microsoft and Facebook always met at multiple events where they shared ideas. This eventually led to the Marea line.
